Screen Picture Quality Image Resolution

 Output picture resolution (pixels per inch) has a dramatic effect on the quality of printed photos. For pictures displayed on-screen, however, output resolution is not very important. Computer screens show only pixel dimensions, not pixels per inch. Pixel numbers do control the size at which the picture appears on your monitor or screen, however.
Like digital cameras, computer screens display everything you see on-screen, out of pixels. You can choose from several screen settings, each of which results in a different number of screen pixels. Standard settings used to be 640 x 480 pixels, 800 x 600 pixels, and 1024 x 768 pixels. Now, many new computer screens go far beyond that resolution.
When you display digital photos on your computer screen, the screen ignores output resolution (ppi) and simply devotes one screen pixel to every image pixel. This means if you set your digital camera to record a 1680 x 1050 pixel image, that picture consumes the whole screen on a monitor that's set to the 1680 x 1050 display setting.
This means editing digital photos is very easy with even the most inexpensive digital camera image resolution as you will easily see it on any computer screen.
